Cambs Frocktails POSTPONED

Cambs Frocktails has been postponed. Please put the new date of 17 October in your diary.

This has been an incredibly difficult decision for our organising group but given the rapidly changing Coronavirus situation and the uncertainty (and anxiety) about what to do, we have decided the best course of action is to postpone Frocktails.

We will write a longer blog post soon explaining our decision and what happens next, however we didn’t want to delay informing you one minute longer than necessary.

We owe a huge thank you to the Clayton (Tamburlaine) Hotel, The Cassettes and Lucinda Price Photography for being so understanding and working with us to reschedule this event with minimal fuss and damage to our budget. They have all been incredible partners. THANK YOU!

If the new date doesn’t work for you, we will offer refunds on ticket sales. Please give us a little time to work out how to do this. We will provide clear instructions on our website and send another email with more information once everything is confirmed.

We’re looking at the positives. There is more time to add finishing touches to our Frocks or even to start a new project. We will also have more time to promote our event and our sponsors. CambsFrocktails will be even better than we had imagined!

We realise this may be really disappointing, especially after months of work on your outfits and the expenses you may have incurred for materials, transport and accommodation. However, we think it would be more devastating if our event led to suffering for our guests and/or their families and that is a risk we just cannot take.

We’re working with our sponsors to clarify the situation around discount codes; however, you can assume that any codes listed on our website are still available for you to use. If we’re going to be stuck at home for the next few weeks we might as well get on with some sewing!

Thank you for your understanding and please keep an eye out for further updates.

Please stay safe and well and keep on sewing!

Roxanne and the CambsSews team

Vlieseline

Vlieseline have sponsored our gift bags and provided our guests with a raft of interfacing goodies including interfacing samples, seam tape and a sewing notebook.

One of Vlieseline’s flagship dressmaking products is the seam tape flexible.  This easy to use product is suitable for use across a broad spectrum of garment types and fabrics, from velvet at one end of the spectrum to jersey at the other.  The bi-elastic, bias cut fusible woven tape is designed to protect edges against distorting, stretching and fraying while sewing, and can be easily applied to curved shapes with a hand iron.   The overall effect is that the completed garment will have a cleaner and crisper appearance, the seams will be protected against distorting and grinning in aftercare and the overall integrity of the seams will be enhanced.  Seams which have been taped are also easier to handle during sewing, particularly with stretch and jersey fabrics where curling occurs on raw edges.

The seam tape flexible is also suitable for use in jacket small parts, in the seams of unconstructed jackets, is washable to 40 degrees and is fully dry-cleanable.  This is one sewing room essential that should never be out of stock!

For more dressmaking tips and information about the Vlieseline range of dressmaking interlinings and tapes please visit our website at: www.vlieseline.com and our facebook page Vlieseline Freudenberg UK

Backstitch

The Frocktails team are very grateful to have the support of local crafty business Backstitch. Sewists from in and around Cambridge will know Backstitch for the friendly and welcoming shop and excellent customer service.

Backstitch is the perfect place to find materials for your Frocktails outfit either in person at the shop, or by browsing the extensive selection of fabrics and haberdashery on the online shop. Backstitch is a needlecraft heaven for a reason. A successful online fabric and haberdashery shop since 2010, Alice Synge opened her shop at Burwash Manor in 2014.

The Frocktails team are particulary taken with the Sparkles and Sequins fabric section on the website. We can see ourselves shimmying the night away in the Mini Sequins Sparkle fabric at just £10 a meter!

Do you need to make sure you have some time set aside to work on your Frocktails outfit? The shop is also a great place to book some studio time to perfect those #memade outfits. Make use of the light and airy studio area with a large cutting table while being surrounded by fabric inspriation. Morning and afternoon sessions are both available to book through the website and cost just £4 a session. You can even hire a sewing machine to work with while you are there.

Visit the shop and not only can you browse the beautiful range of fabrics, but you can also take part in many different classes. These classes are perfect for aspiring sewists who want a little help getting started, through to the more experienced seamstress who wants to up-skill thier dressmaking skills with a Dressmaking Technique class. You can even learn to make a new garment such as a pair of Ginger Jeans in their three day workshop. Or why not learn a new skill? The classes aren’t just for dressmakers, you can also learn to crochet or knit, or pick up a new craft in the Introducation to Weaving class. All the classes can be viewed and booked through the Backstitch website.

Backstitch shop at Burwash Manor is open 10am – 5pm Monday to Saturday and 11am – 5pm on Sundays.
